Elder Hansen is really enjoying the work in York.
"So this past week went pretty good. We had six people at church yesterday. We had a coordination meeting with our new ward mission leader Brother Horwell. He's the one who baptised his friend a few weeks agao and just got released as the stake high councilman over missionary work. Our ward is so stacked with leadership its ridiculous. So pretty sure we have a former mission president, stake president and temple president and many former bishops. Unfortunately there aren't too many ysa but it is really good. We have people teaching with us every week, the problem is we just don't have enough investigators to teach."
As far as the teaching pool goes:
"So Richard is doing really well. We invited him to be baptised and he accepted and we taught him the word of wisdom and the sabbath day and he came to church and brought his girlfriend again. The big commandments left to teach him are tithing and the law of chastity. Richard is a great young man. He just has integrity. He keeps all of his commitments too. The most difficult thing with him is that he is very busy doing a masters in economics right now so we don't see him too often. We just need to help him continue getting answers to his prayers.
Richard's friend Eva seems to be pretty interested as well. We haven't taught her much but she did sit in on the lesson about the word of wisdom so that was good. It will help her be ready for her baptism. We are going to try to make her a focus in the coming weeks."
Eric also reported that Perlin continues to not make much progress, and Mrs. Chu missed church this week and continues to hold on to some of her Buddhist beliefs. Still, both remain interested in continuing to learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and having the missionaries teach them.
In other news, Eric expressed excitement about rooming with his friend Brooks Measom at BYU in the fall. Eric and Brooks were friends during their freshman year at BYU before their missions. Hard to believe that planning for post-mission schooling has already begun.
This one cracked me up:
"We had a lesson this week about finances in church and I realised I should be a bit more careful with the money I have. I still owe elder Kacher money for a tie...who said you couldn't get in debt on your mission."
Funny, because the kid hardly spends any money at all. I don't know how he gets by on what little he spends, but he still worries about spending too much. Just like Eric.
Eric expressed appreciation for the letters and e-mails he receives. He was especially thankful for a letter from his Uncle Rob, and for the weekly letters he receives from his Aunt Doris and Uncle Wally. I'm glad he has some post to open every week, because other than e-mails, we hardly ever write to him.
"So on another interesting note, today we're having a zone p-day. Some elders in Harrogate were convinced that we should rent a giant inflatable bouncy castle. So we read the white handbook and didn't see anything against it and booked the chapel for today. So today we'll be having a p-day full of jumping around like 5 yr olds in an inflatable castle. I think it's funny, don't say it isn't an original p-day."
Apparently, when you're working hard all week as missionaries, it doesn't take much to amuse you.
In closing:
"Well I hope you are all doing well. I am really enjoying it in York. The zone here has been improving a lot over the past few weeks. We need to get the missionaries here to expect more. So often we are complacent and satisfied. The Lord is easy to please and hard to satisfy."
