This week, Eric said they pretty much started over with a whole new teaching pool. He's excited about it, because they have found some people who are prepared to listen and hopefully accept the gospel message. They found Albert and Zi Jing, both Chinese students Eric described as being "humble seekers of the truth." Another Chinese student, Richard, came to church again this week. Last week, he came by himself in jeans and a sweater. This week, he brought his girlfriend and wore a suit, white shirt and tie. Elder Hansen and Elder Valdivia were able to teach Richard and his girlfriend after church, and they both seem very interested to learn more. They will be attending an institute class on Tuesday night with Lucia, a Chinese recent convert who has been fellowshipping them.
"Also, Sunday night we found this crazy old Chinese lady who will be coming to church next week and is really excited to be taught. I have never really taught an older Chinese person. She tests my Mandarin skills. If she would join the church she would be the ultimate Chinese grandma of the ward."
Eric mentioned finding two other people named Jane and Sue. Jane was engaged to Sue's son before he died. Both are still grieving his death. Elders Valdivia and Hansen taught them a little about the plan of salvation at Sue's house, and then scheduled to teach Jane again at her house on Saturday.
"On Saturday, we brought this church member out with us, it was kind of funny. He got in the car and asked, 'So where does Jane live?' We said, 'St. Wulstans Close, do you know where that is?' Then he just got out of the car and I thought we offended him. He said, 'You mean Jane who lives at number 2?' And we replied, 'Yeah.' Then he said, 'Blooming heck that's my neighbor; she lives right there.' So we just got out of the car, walked to her house and taught her."
Eric goes on to say that the member who went with them is named Ron, is 74 years old and has "british teeth." He says, "I like Ron. He makes me laugh."
"So yeah that's about our teaching pool for now. Everything with all of these people is still really early but I am super excited."
Another noteworthy event this week.
"Also this past week was zone conference. It was really good. President Stock taught about achieving your desires and used Nephi's example. It was so powerful but it really wasn't anything new, just inspiring. He just helped me realize how miracles are really possible and how amazing things can happen to all of us."
He mentioned planning classes at BYU this fall, and indicated he's looking forward to taking Mandarin classes. He then closed with this little tidbit:
"Well I'm gonna get going we have a fun p-day planned we are going to the Harrogate military base. I'm gonna go use my US money and buy root beer!!Woot!"
