A shorter e-mail this week but it still had some exciting news. Rita Mputu was baptized on Sunday, September 27th. They moved the baptism from Saturday because her husband had to work. Many of the church members attended the baptism, and Rita is very happy.
Church was great again, and they had 7 investigators attend. One of them was a woman named Gabriella, whom Eric describes as a crazy alcoholic. Apparently, she has been coming to church for several weeks, and has a sister in Germany who is LDS. Eric says she is drinking less and less and behaving better when she comes to church. He said after the first week she came, he didn't think she would come back, but she enjoys it and they are continuing to work with her. She told the women at the church that she used to be very biased against the LDS church, but since she has been coming she has felt a warmth and love she hasn't felt anywhere else. She has a pretty good understanding of the Bible, and loves to discuss the gospel with the elders.
James continues to do well and to prepare for his baptism. He went to an addiction recovery class this week for help with a smoking habit he's trying to overcome. Eric said he's very smart and has been proactive in keeping his commitments. The spirit has really helped him understand what he is being taught.
Seema didn't make it to church this week, because her mother surprised her for her birthday and took her to Birmingham.
In other exciting news, Nikki, Manuella, and several other recent converts were able to go to the temple in Preston for the first time this week. This was a great experience for them. Eric said Nikki is feeling a little overwhelmed by all the changes in her life. It can be a difficult journey for new converts, but Eric is confident that Nikki will continue to do well.
Finally, Eric was able to travel to a different ward in the stake this week to confirm a Chinese woman he had helped teach. He said it was a lovely experience.
