Elder Hansen is loving Leeds, and enjoying the challenge of serving as a zone leader. He does feel somewhat overwhelmed with the responsibilities, and with all he needs to learn. His e-mail this week was upbeat and exciting, full of interesting news on his new assignment.
Elders Hansen and Read have been very busy this past week. They have a very large teaching pool, with people of various ethnicity. Eric is still getting to know some of these people. They are also teaching some people who are not members of the church but have family members who are. This can be a very enjoyable and successful effort.

They are also teaching some people who are not members of the church but have family members who are. This can be a very enjoyable and successful effort.
In addition to their teaching, Elders Read and Hansen have leadership responsibilities which keep them very busy. Eric said he has never been this busy in his life. Throughout the week, they were preparing for a monthly meeting with the stake presidency and mission president, where they have the responsibility to report on the status of missionary labors in all the units of the stake. This meeting was held Sunday morning at 8:00a.m., and it apparently went well. Following their meeting, the Elders left to find people they are teaching and help them get to church. They had to get some of them up, find rides for some of them, and arrange a taxi for others. When all was said and done, they had 10 investigators who came to church with them.
Later in the day, they received a phone call from the leader of the stake young single adults. He asked them if they were still able to teach workshops at a large young adult meeting that night. Apparently, the person who was supposed to ask them hadn't done so, which made this a complete surprise to them. They only had 90 minutes to prepare, so they went to see President Stock, and received some inspired guidance and direction from him. President Stock was pleased that they had this opportunity to try to help an important group of young people in the church. They went to the meeting and the workshops went well.
Eric mentioned that he is enjoying being with Elder Read. He said, "I get on with him great," which sounded very British to us. He said Elder Read realizes there is much he needs to teach Elder Hansen in the next 6 weeks, and is anxious to do so. Eric calls Elder Read a very good missionary, and he is happy they are already beginning to see some success together.
Elder Read is also very supportive of working with Chinese people. In fact, a young Chinese woman and her friend came to church on Sunday. They met her last week. Also, on Sunday while they were driving, Elder Read saw a Chinese guy on the street. He stopped, and said, "Hey, he's Chinese. Go talk to him." So Elder Hansen got out of the car and spoke to the man. Turns out the man, whose English name is Laurence, had been searching for a faith, and wanted to know if God would protect him. Eric assured him that God is watching over him and knows him personally. Laurence also wanted to know how he could get rid of his guilty feelings. Eric taught him about repentance and baptism for the remission of sins. They talked about the Book of Mormon, and Eric taught him how to pray. They ended up having a long discussion until Laurence had to leave to catch a train. He told Eric he would like to be baptized, but he's going away for 10 days, so they won't be able to teach him any more for awhile. He promised to read in the Book of Mormon and pray each day. Eric is looking forward to meeting with him again.
